Biography...

Fashion is in Susan Gorra’s blood.
It was her grandfather, Namer Joseph Gorra, who started N.J. Gorra & Bros., a fine fashion wholesale and retail business, in 1902 in the old YMCA building on Meridian Street in New London, CT. In 1913, Gorra’s was the first occupant of the Manwaring Building on State Street. Her father, Joseph Namer Gorra, bought the Manwaring Building in 1957 and N.J. Gorra's occupied nearly 10,000 square feet there until it closed in 1983. The Gorra family also owned stores in Niantic, CT and Watch Hill, RI.
In addition to hands-on experience in her family’s business, Gorra has worked for a number of designers and other retailers, including Polo/Ralph Lauren Corporation, Helen Hsu Inc., Ethan Allen Retail Inc., and Cache Inc.
Not only does she possess an innate sense of fashion, she understands the business of fashion.
With Gorra’s by Susan Stewart, she combines her passion and talent for design with her business sensibilities.
Gorra has a degree in Fashion Design from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA, and studied Fashion Design, Haute Couture, International Art, and French Culture at the Paris Fashion Institute, Paris, France.
